Water systems in the IGAD nations—Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda—are crucial for agriculture, human consumption, and economic development, yet they face significant challenges such as water scarcity, inadequate infrastructure, and the impacts of climate change. Many areas experience chronic shortages exacerbated by drought and erratic rainfall, particularly in arid regions. Inadequate water management and investment hinder access to clean water and sanitation, leading to health issues. Regional cooperation, particularly in managing transboundary water resources like the Nile River, is essential, and community-based approaches are increasingly recognized for improving local water management. Addressing these challenges requires integrated water resource management, sustainable practices, and collaborative efforts to ensure sufficient and clean water access for all communities in the region
